MultiNav Pro+ BLE at 50km - line of sight only or any real NLos results?

Been digging into the MultiNav Pro+ BLE module specs and the 50km range figure is obviously the headline grabber. I get that long-range BLE with a solid RF front-end can do serious distance, but basically every time I've seen numbers like that in the wild it's been under ideal conditions - flat terrain, clear line of sight, probably elevated antennas on both ends. Totally valid test scenario, just not always what we're actually building for.

@Michael Wilson yeah you're asking exactly the right question and I'd rather give you a straight answer than a marketing one.
 
The 50km figure is drone-to-drone, both modules airborne — that's the configuration where you eliminate ground reflections and multipath almost entirely, which is why the number looks so clean. The 5km ground-to-ground spec is the more "real world builder" number, and even that assumes reasonably clear surroundings.
 
For NLOS honestly it depends heavily on what's in the way. Foliage and light terrain features — people have had decent results, signal degrades but doesn't cliff-edge. Dense urban or anything with serious concrete between the nodes is a different story, you're going to take a meaningful hit and I wouldn't plan a critical application around worst-case NLOS without testing your specific environment first.
 
If you're building for a use case where NLOS is the norm, I'd love to hear more about what you're actually deploying — there might be smarter ways to set up the link budget or node placement to compensate.

Yeah that 50km is definitely a best-case LOS figure, I'd treat it like a ceiling not a target. In my own testing with the Pro+ in semi-urban environments with some building obstruction I was getting maybe 8-12km before things got flaky, which is still honestly impressive but nowhere near the headline number. If you've got specific terrain in mind it's worth just prototyping the link budget yourself rather than trusting the datasheet.
