MultiNav Pro+ BLE at 50km - line of sight only or any real NLOS results?

Been going back and forth on this in my head and figured I'd just ask the community directly. The 50km BLE range on the MultiNav Pro+ is obviously a headline spec and I get that it's probably achieved under ideal conditions - elevated antennas, clear line of sight, flat terrain, whatever. What I'm actually trying to figure out is whether anyone has gotten meaningful range in NLOS or semi-urban conditions. I'm working on a deploy where the nodes are going to be spread across a semi-rural area with some low hills and light tree cover between them, definitely not clean LOS the whole way.

@Michael Gonzalez yeah this is exactly the right question to ask before committing to a deployment layout. The 50km spec is drone-to-drone with both units elevated and ground reflections eliminated — that's the ceiling, not the typical working range. For ground nodes with low hills and tree cover in the path, you're realistically looking at the 5km ground-to-ground figure as your planning baseline, though actual results will vary depending on how much elevation you can get on the node antennas.
 
The good news is that semi-rural with light tree cover is actually one of the more forgiving NLOS scenarios for this frequency range — dense urban with buildings is where things get brutal. A few people in the community have had decent results by getting even modest antenna elevation (a few meters off the ground on a pole mount) which can clear a lot of the near-field obstruction that kills range on flat ground deployments.
 
Honestly the best move for your use case would be to grab a pair and do a real-world path test before you commit to your node spacing — the 2-unit pack is $59 so the cost of a field test is low relative to figuring out you need more nodes after you've already placed them. If you want to share your rough terrain profile I'm happy to think through node placement with you.

Honest answer: the 50km is very much a best-case LOS number, and in semi-rural NLOS you're realistically looking at a fraction of that depending on terrain and what's in the way. I've seen people get decent results with careful node placement and a bit of elevation even in non-ideal conditions, but if your deploy has any real obstructions between nodes I'd plan your mesh density around something much more conservative and test early before you commit to a layout.

Agree with Jennifer - I'd actually plan around maybe 5-10km for semi-rural NLOS as a working baseline and treat anything beyond that as a bonus. In my experience the terrain really is the wildcard, even a gentle ridge between nodes can kill your range way more than you'd expect.
