The 50km spec is drone-to-drone with both units elevated and ground reflections eliminated — that's the ceiling, not the typical working range. For ground nodes with low hills and tree cover in the path, you're realistically looking at the 5km ground-to-ground figure as your planning baseline, though actual results will vary depending on how much elevation you can get on the node antennas.
The good news is that semi-rural with light tree cover is actually one of the more forgiving NLOS scenarios for this frequency range — dense urban with buildings is where things get brutal. A few people in the community have had decent results by getting even modest antenna elevation (a few meters off the ground on a pole mount) which can clear a lot of the near-field obstruction that kills range on flat ground deployments.
Honestly the best move for your use case would be to grab a pair and do a real-world path test before you commit to your node spacing — the 2-unit pack is $59 so the cost of a field test is low relative to figuring out you need more nodes after you've already placed them.
