MultiNav Pro+ BLE at 50km - what does line-of-sight actually mean here?

So I've been planning a long-range telemetry setup for a UAV project and the 50km BLE spec on the MultiNav Pro+ caught my eye pretty hard. I'm not doubting the number, but I want to make sure I understand the conditions under which that's achievable before I commit to building around it. Like, is that 50km figure measured ground-to-ground on a flat open field, or is it more of a ground-to-air test where you've got one node elevated and clear of terrain obstructions? Because those are very different deployment scenarios for most of us.

@Barbara Garcia great question and honestly the right one to ask before you commit your architecture to a range spec.
 
The 50km figure is drone-to-drone — both nodes airborne, which eliminates ground reflections and multipath interference that kill range on terrestrial links. Ground-to-drone (one node on you, one on the UAV) gets you 15-20km, and ground-to-ground drops further to around 5km because you're fighting Fresnel zone obstruction and surface scattering even on open terrain.
 
For your UAV telemetry use case, if the module is on the aircraft and you're operating the ground station, you're in that 15-20km envelope — which is still genuinely impressive for BLE at this price point, just want you to have the right number in your head when you're sizing your mission radius.
