MultiNav Pro+ BLE - connection stability when module is moving at speed?

Hey all, working on a project where I'm mounting the MultiNav Pro+ BLE module on a vehicle (think slow-moving agricultural equipment, not a race car) and streaming sensor data back to a base station maybe 2-3km away. Range wise I'm obviously well within the 50km spec so that's not the concern. What I'm actually running into - or more accurately what I'm worried I'll run into before I get further into the build - is whether the link degrades meaningfully when the module itself is in motion. Even at low speeds the orientation is constantly changing relative to the base station and I'm guessing that affects the effective antenna pattern in practice even if the raw RF specs are solid.

@Julie Smith good question and honestly a pretty common concern for this kind of deployment — the short answer is that at 2-3km you have so much link margin headroom that orientation-induced pattern variation isn't going to drop your connection, even with the module rotating around on a tractor or similar equipment.
 
The thing to think about is that antenna pattern nulls are real but they're also fleeting — on a slow-moving vehicle the module is never going to sit in a null orientation long enough for the link to actually fail, it'll just see a brief dip in RSSI and the receiver sensitivity of the module is good enough that you'd need to lose a lot of dBm before it matters at that distance. Where orientation becomes a genuine problem is when you're right at the edge of range and a null hits at the worst moment, but at 2-3km on a ground-to-ground link rated to 5km you're not even close to that edge case.
 
The more practical thing I'd actually watch for in an ag equipment deployment is multipath and ground reflections from the terrain and any metal on the machine itself — mounting position on the vehicle matters more than the motion. Get the antenna as high and unobstructed as you can on the equipment, keep it away from large metal surfaces that would create a ground plane effect, and you should stream data without issues. If you're also logging position alongside the sensor data, pairing it with the GNSS module at 18Hz is a natural fit for that kind of application too.

At the speeds ag equipment moves you're really not going to see any meaningful Doppler or motion-related degradation on the link - that's more of a concern when you're talking aircraft or high-speed vehicles. The bigger thing I'd actually watch for in your setup is antenna orientation as the vehicle turns, especially if you're using the onboard PCB antenna rather than an external one, since that can cause some pattern nulling depending on how it's mounted relative to your base station.

Rajesh is spot on about the antenna orientation thing - I ran into exactly this on a similar deployment and ended up going with an external whip on a short mast just to get a bit more consistent pattern as the machine was turning through headlands. Made a noticeable difference vs the onboard antenna which was basically playing lottery depending on which direction the tractor was headed.
