MultiNav Pro+ BLE - does range drop significantly with obstacles/NLOS?

So I've been looking at the MultiNav Pro+ BLE module for a project I'm building - basically a long range remote monitoring setup across a large agricultural property, think open fields but with some tree lines, a few metal grain bins, and a farmhouse in the middle. The 50km spec is obviously tested line-of-sight under ideal conditions, I get that, but I'm trying to get a realistic sense of how much the range degrades when you've got partial obstructions. Like are we talking still usable at 5-10km NLOS or does it fall off a cliff once you lose clean line-of-sight?

@Mary Brown good question, and honestly a really relevant one for ag deployments specifically.
 
The 50km figure is drone-to-drone with both units elevated and zero ground clutter — so yeah, that's the ceiling. The ground-to-ground spec is 5km under more typical conditions, and that's the number I'd actually anchor your planning around for a surface-level deployment with obstructions in the mix.
 
That said, your setup sounds more favorable than a worst-case NLOS scenario. Tree lines attenuate 2.4GHz but they're not brick walls — you'll lose some margin but you're not falling off a cliff. Metal grain bins are more of a concern because they reflect and scatter rather than just absorb, so you might get weird multipath behavior near them rather than a clean range drop. The farmhouse in the middle is actually where I'd think about placement — if you can get even one node elevated a few meters (rooftop, a pole mount), you recover a lot of that lost margin because you're clearing the near-ground clutter.
 
For your use case I'd honestly expect comfortably usable links at 3-5km through partial obstructions at ground level, potentially more if you get any height on the endpoints. If the property is large enough that you're pushing past that, the mesh capability in the Connect app is worth looking at — you can chain nodes through intermediate points rather than trying to punch one long link through a lot of vegetation.
 
What's the rough scale of the property and are the monitoring points fixed locations? That'd help narrow down whether you need a single long link or a small mesh.

Honestly for that kind of environment you're probably looking at somewhere in the 30-40% range reduction through heavy tree lines, metal structures are the real killer though - grain bins can be brutal for multipath and signal scatter so I'd plan conservative and maybe think about a mesh hop or a relay node positioned with clear LoS between the bins and the farmhouse. The open field stretches should still give you solid range, its really the metal and dense foliage combos that'll bite you.

Joseph is spot on about the grain bins - I actually tested something similar last year with metal structures and the multipath was way worse than I expected, ended up dropping a relay node on a small pole mount maybe 8-10 feet up just to get above the worst of the scatter and that helped a lot. For your tree lines specifically, if they're not super dense you'll probably still be fine at those distances, it's really the combo of metal + foliage in the same path that tanks things fast.
