MultiNav Pro+ GNSS 1-sec first fix claim — is that cold or hot start?

Hey all, been doing some research on the MultiNav Pro+ GNSS module for a drone tracking project and the "first fix in 1 second" spec is what really caught my eye. Before I pull the trigger on a few units I just want to clarify — is that 1 second fix time measured from a cold start, hot start, or is it only achievable under specific conditions like open sky with almanac already loaded? Because there's a pretty massive difference between those scenarios and most vendors bury that detail in the fine print.

That 1-sec figure is hot start, not cold — cold start on the MultiNav Pro+ is more in the 26-30 sec range under good open sky conditions with a valid almanac already cached. If your drones are powering down between flights and losing their last known position you're not gonna see that 1-sec anywhere close to consistently, so factor that into your use case before ordering.

Kevin's right, and worth adding that if your drones are doing short turnaround flights where the module stays powered (or at least in standby), you'll hit that hot start time pretty reliably — we tested similar scenarios on a project last year and it held up well. But cold boot after a full power cycle, yeah, budget for 30+ seconds or design your preflight checklist around it.

Both Kevin and Alicia nailed it — just want to throw in that if you're running assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) with a valid ephemeris injection over your comms link before each flight, you can get pretty close to hot-start times even after a full power cycle, so that might be worth architecting in if your ground station has a data connection. Saved us a ton of headache on a similar tracking setup.
