MultiNav Pro+ GNSS 18Hz fix rate - is that actually usable for fast drone tracking?

Hey everyone, so I've been deep in a drone telemetry project for the past few weeks and I'm looking hard at the MultiNav Pro+ GNSS module. The 18Hz fix rate is what caught my eye because most of the modules I've worked with before top out at 10Hz and for anything moving at speed you really start to feel that lag in your position updates. My question is whether the 18Hz is actually stable in real conditions or if that's more of a best-case-scenario spec. Like does it hold that rate when you're doing fast direction changes or does it drop back down under load?

From my testing the 18Hz holds pretty solid in open sky but if you're flying anywhere near buildings or heavy canopy you'll see it drop back to 10-12Hz when the signal gets contested - still better than most modules at their worst tbh. For fast drone tracking the bigger thing I'd watch is the latency on the UART output, because a high fix rate doesn't mean much if the data's sitting in a buffer.

Joseph nailed the buffer point - I'd also add that at 18Hz you're pushing a decent amount of NMEA data per second so make sure you're running at least 115200 baud or you'll create your own latency problem before the signal even has a chance to be the bottleneck. Had this exact issue on a tracker build last year and spent way too long blaming the module before I checked my baud config.
